This recipe is written in handwriting that I think may be Grammy's. I suspect this recipe predates 1952 because of the ingredient "sherry flavoring" (a brandy-fortified wine). Grammy did not consume alcohol after 1952 when she (along with her husband and two older daughters) was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints whose members do not partake of alcohol in any form.
Ingredients:
- 12 egg yolks
- 12 egg whites
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 8 tablespoons sherry flavoring [I'd use a non-alcoholic substitute]
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Beat yolks
- Add sugar gradually
- Add flavoring and salt
- Fold in stiff egg whites
- Beat cream stiff and add
- Chill before serving
